Nowadays as we all are observing that people are using short words instead of the actual english word while chatting,SMS,scraps etc....
ex: h r u? for How are you?, k for okay, @ for at
and many such others....
Dont you think that if we continue with this it could cause problems on our actual english writing skills.. Nowadays you will find that even kindergarten kids also are trying to use such short words... And if this continues the kids would forget or they will find it difficult to read/understand the actual english words....
Shouldnt we try to think on this?

| yep..oops yes rakesh what you said is absolutely rt.....even i felt the same...coz im experiencing it...as im seriously unable to write the official mails to any of my managers......n moreover i tried my level best to avoid shotwords here too... :-)

Though you use short words in writing, there are no shortcuts for speaking. You never get off from the actual english words. And you read actual english in newspapers, magazines, TV news almost everywhere.
Short words are ok. no harm. in fact u can save money on sms. u can type faster then though it is far from your speaking speed.

| @Pavan - i agree with you. But as you would know that there many people who do not read newspapers, magazine either regularly or not at all. Writing shortcuts will not effect our speaking but it would really effect the writing skills since we become habituated with shortcuts.

The most difficult thing is that most of the people couldn't understand lot of the shortcuts used. at least some words like you - u, are - r is accepted which could be easily understandable by anyone.... But using the same words in email, forums and other stuffs is a bit hard to digest......Anyways, I surely agree that the English language is slowly damaging due to this SMS....
This could be easily stopped by using the shortcuts only in the SMS and not in the other things.... but it will never be stopped............

And the best example is the post by Cindrella few days back... i surely say that most of the couldnt get what she is trying to say..... and no one is going to understand this large para..............
hi guyz dis is sunitha...my fren is madly luv wid a guy...d story goes lke dis...both of thm wrkd 2gethr, she being vry resrvd decent n naughty gal, never interacted wid guyz all her life..she liked dis guy n he too lked hr bt thn never xpresed..she left d wrkplce as she thot dis rlatnshp wud never work! but then wen he came to know dat she liked him too he hapend to propose her n they wer just in touch wid msgs thru cel...gals parents happen to b serious abt a proposal n she thought once she'd get rid of d proposal wud express him her feelings....by then d guy may b got bugged up..wen she expressed to him, he said that hez out of luv..n since past 8 months shez trying to convince him to meet her as they never met after they fell for each other...he happens to b d only guy in her life as she never spoke or invited ne other person into her life...she is so loyal 2 him that she doesnt even get ready wel.......she thinks if he is not in hr lfe whom shud she impress....now ultimatly she has decidd nt 2 mary...bth of thm stay in hyd bt thn evryday shz prayng God to gve hr a chnce 2 meet hm, chnge hs mind n prayng 4 hm 2 cum bac...in fact she has been askng hm 2 meet hm til feb n finaly she thot dat by huk or cruk she shud meet hm n tld tht guy dat shz geting maried n wntd 2 invite hm for hr mariag..bt thn as she is a believer she cudnt tke it dat she lied to him n she said that she lied, n gave up..she stil luvz hm..n xpctng hm 2 meet atleast 1ce in her life,hlp! wat can b done!

| Writing short forms is really irritating for people who are reading such stuff. It generally gives a feeling that the other person is not very serious. Using short forms in SMS or chat is perfectly fine but using it in any other form of correspondence is simply unacceptable.
